6.6 million trees planted in 2021
In December, after about six months, our 2021 planting season in Mexico ended with the magnificent result of 6,662,530 trees planted in three project areas: 1,352,798 seedlings were planted in Constitución in Campeche and 310,964 seedlings were planted in Bacalar in Quintana Roo (both on the Yucatán Peninsula); further 4,998,768 seedlings we could plant together with Mexican smallholders in Volcano Valley around the town of Toluca in the state of Mexico. We expect to start this year's planting season in July 2022, when we will rely on even more tree species and additional scientists, and start our own tree nursery in addition to our partner nursery. To ensure that the 2022 planting season will be as successful as the last one, we still need your valuable support!

Our global network is growing
Did you know that our global network now consists of 92,837 Climate Justice Ambassadors in 75 countries, who have been empowered through our various educational formats since 2007? Our education program includes academies (online & offline), regular online Empowerment Workshops and Youth Summit Talks (see below), as well as annual Children's Conferences and Youth Summits, where engaged young people network with each other and learn how to take action themselves and mobilize adults.

Reorganization of the Board of Directors and Foundation Council
|
Since January 1st, 2022, we welcome Dr. Thilo Pfletschinger as a full-time Board Member of Plant-for-the-Planet. He will drive the restructuring within the organization, as well as strengthen the Marketing & Sales, Project Management Office and Strategy Development units. Previously, Pfletschinger, who holds a doctorate in risk management, worked for 18 years at 3DSE Management Consultants GmbH, most recently as a partner.

Another new Member of the Board is Fatou Jeng, who has been an active representative of Plant-for-the-Planet for many years and has championed our mission at international congresses such as the Global Landscape Forum and the COP. Our CTO Sagar Aryal moves from the Board of Directors to the Foundation Council. Also new to the Foundation Council is Gregor Hintler, who knows and supports Plant-for-the-Planet since 2008.

Running for climate
Time is running out and the climate crisis and its consequences are becoming increasingly serious. Fortunately, some motivated Swiss students are also running very fast and have set a clear signal for our future by organizing a charity run: Kate, Climate Justice Ambassador from Switzerland and member of our Global Board, organized a Run4Trees at her school and raised more than 6,600 CHF together with her classmates.

New event format: Youth Summit Talks
On Saturday, January 29, at 2 pm (CET), we will kick off our new event format, the Youth Summit Talks: In this 90-minute session, active Climate Justice Ambassadors as well as all other interested young individuals will have the opportunity to learn more about climate protection, climate justice and activism and to network with committed young people from all over the world.
